Seriously....Scarlet Fever?

So a week ago Sunday Vela woke up with a freaky rash all over her body. I called the Dr and they assured me that she would be fine and just keep her out of nursery and call back if it didn't clear up in a day or so. By Tuesday she was getting much worse and we were supposed to be leaving to San Diego the next day. So we headed to the Dr to find out that she had Scarlet Fever. Hema and I both said at the same time "Don't people die from that?" I guess not. The Dr assured us that Rheumatic Fever is the dangerous one. (I've included Wikipedia links with info on both if you are interested!) It is a tiny rash all over and it really feels like sandpaper. Usually it is pretty red, but this is what it looks like on a child with darker skin. Pretty creepy huh!!
Since it is a type of strep, it isn't contagious 24 hours after the antibiotics start. Also, they usually test negative to a throat swab strep test. Vela did - but for sure had it. Vela's was a pretty bad case. My niece had it before her and it wasn't nearly as bad as Vela's. Also Vela has really sensitive skin and it just looks horrible now. I hope this will all clear up and not leave scarring or any lasting effects!! Here is how she looks now!
Hema has started calling her the little leper! Her feet are horrible! Scabs on the top and peeling all around the toes and all over the foot.
Her hands have blistery looking parts all over.
Her legs - not the worst part of the body. Her arms - check out the scabs!

The bottom of her feet showing the peeling skin.

Her back and belly are sad too! They say the rash doesn't really itch too badly, but this peeling skin is making Vela crazy. Poor thing!!
Just had to post these pictures! Hope it clears up soon!
At an unrelated Dr's appointment for Vela yesterday the Dr asked if she had a skin disease. Yikes! We just finished up the 10 days of antibiotics and hope she is looking much better soon!

Oh that is so sad. Each picture I scrolled through made me cringe a little. Poor little girl. I hope she is feeling better soon.

FREAKY! Only someone as adorable as Vela could still look cute with that crazy skin!

I am so sad you have to deal with that! I hate seeing my kids with any health issue... it is totally stressful. You are such a good mom!

That is so sad! Sorry if it came from us. Both my girls tested negative for the strep culture, so maybe it was a false negative? Hope Vela is all better soon!

Poor, sweet Vela!! I had Scarlet Fever (Strep with a rash) when I was a Jr in HS while we were taking finals. So I had to go to school with a sweatshirt on to cover the rash, but it wasn't nearly as bad as Vela's!! My heavens she got it good!! A few of my kids have had a rash with strep before, on their face only. Which is again another variation of strep, can I just say how much I hate hate hate Strep!!

Sweet little Vela. We need to make her some cookies. You probably need something a little stronger like . . . a big bowl of candy. I know it's been a long time.
