Hema and I have been married for nearly 12 years. When we first got married, his parents really wanted us to go to their ward. His dad was the bishop of the Tongan ward they attended. I kindly declined due to the fact that I am not Tongan and don't speak Tongan. The subject never came up again....
until a few months ago when my sweet husband told me that he had been feeling like we ought to think and pray about going to the Tongan ward in our area. I laughed and said no thanks (Really, I did!). You know, we have lived here for less than 10 years and spent 6 of them down at BYU (which was such a great time!), but I really feel like we just got to know our own ward here. A few weeks later when I was heading to the temple by myself, Hema asked if I would pray about it. I said sure and off I went - knowing full well that there was no way I was changing wards. Well, apparently the Lord had different plans for us! I got a strong answer that my husband was right. So on Sunday, we transferred our records to the Lehi Tongan Branch and actually already have received callings there! (But won't be sustained for a couple weeks so we won't be discussing those yet.) Anyhow, I am not sure why I was surprised to feel so welcomed and comfortable there. After all, Tonga is known as the friendly Islands! Tomorrow we are going to camp with our new branch and are just excited to jump in and get involved there. I do miss my awesome Greenpark ward and also the amazing sisters (Penny, Kathy and Janece) that I served with in the Stake Relief Society. Yeah, we are in a totally different stake so I will no longer have that calling. But hey, we still live here so please if you are from the Greenpark ward and see me around, don't be a stranger! This was a huge decision for us, but we know from past experience that our Father in Heaven knows what is best for us and our family!
