Here is Katie with Little Hema. We were at the Aquarium. Look how little Hema is in this picture.
It was the same week we met these guys. Man, I cannot imagine life without Vela. There she is in Chelise's cute belly! Leiana was just younger than Vela is now in this picture. Although they look different, I can see a lot of similarities. I can also see so much of Vela in both Sioeli and Chelise. We sure do love these guys!!!
I am so grateful for open adoption. I very rarely get to see TV in the evenings, but happened to turn the TV on last night right before a show called "Find my Family" was on. I was interested to see how they would portray adoption. It showed a set of birth parents that had placed a daughter for adoption nearly 30 years earlier and had been searching for her for 9 years. I guess the part that made me the most sad was the fact that the birth parents and their daughter lived 8 miles from one another but never knew it. Closed adoption must be very difficult. It leaves so many questions unanswered. I know that there are some situations where it is the only choice, but I am so grateful that when my children have questions about where they came from or why they were placed for adoption, they will be able to hear those answers from loving birth parents. I am so grateful that when we wonder how our children's birth parents are doing or just want to talk to them, we can call them or text them or visit them. We don't have to just hope that they are okay. And more than anything it makes me grateful that when our children's birth parents wonder about the kids or want to see them or need to hold them - they know they can, they know that they are okay. They deserve to know. I am so grateful for amazing birth parents who allow us to be part of their lives! I am so grateful for our open adoptions!!

You truly are an incredible person. I love hearing your adoption stories. I had a family for my son before he was born and I didn't feel it was right but adoption is great and I look up to the birth parents so much and there strength. hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving with your adorable family. all off of us so much to be Thankful for
I have loved all your posts this month and have learned a lot about adoption. Our friends just officially adopted their sweet little boy last week and it was so special to witness the joy and happiness they felt after a long hard year. He was a foster baby first and they had a lot of hoops to jump through.
