Birthday Festivities

Hema woke up Saturday morning and little Hema asked him what he preferred to do for his birthday. When he said he hadn't decided, Little Hema said, "Since you don't prefer anything, can I choose what you prefer today?" (He really likes the word prefer.) As soon as his daddy said yes, I knew we would be going to the zoo. Little Hema has been dying to go and the last two times we planned it it snowed.

The weather was great and the zoo was a blast. My favorites were the baby elephant and the baby giraffe. Let's face it, everything is cute as a baby!! Maybe it is just because I am so stinking baby hungry - but I couldn't get enough of these two cute babies!

We saw the giraffe nurse for a bit, which honestly sort of freaked our kids out. Since they are both adopted, I obviously never nursed them. They really don't get the concept of nursing. We tried to explain it was getting milk from it's mommy. Hema just made a weird face and said that's disgusting. Oh well! Here the cute little giraffe is trying to eat some grass. It looked so tiny next to it's mom, but was really about 7 feet tall.

We had such a great time, we decided to get a family pass there. So if anyone wants to go to the zoo - call us!!

When we got home we decided to go try a little fishing. No one caught any fish. But we did see a dog catch a mink and that was pretty exciting. Luckily the owner of the dog was there to let the mink go.

Since we were out and about all day yesterday, I made Hema's birthday dinner today. We grilled burgers and had his favorite chocolate sheet cake. (Yes, this picture is just keeping it real. Little Hema with a red crystal light moustache and Vela with sweet post church and nap hair.) If you haven't tried the Pioneer Woman's recipe, you are missing out. Vela loves chocolate cake!!
