Vela's Hernia Surgery

Vela had her surgery to repair her hernia today. Right before she went in for the surgery, I realized I didn't have a picture of the hernia. This isn't the best picture, but you can see how it pokes out above her belly button. (Once the bandages come off, I'll take an after shot!)
She was awesome for the whole thing. She never even cried at the hospital.
The only time she cried was when we dropped Little Hema off at Aunt Brandi's house. She wanted to stay and play with her cousins. Thanks so much Brandi for watching Hema at the very last minute!! I don't know what we would have done without you!
Vela loved the hospital jammies, but wasn't so sure about the socks. They had bubbles and lots of toys for her to play with. The staff at the hospital were all so great with Vela and kept her distracted and not worried!
Vela may have a future in medicine. She loved this stethoscope. Here is the surgeon, Dr. Black with Vela and mommy before the surgery.
This was Vela with Dr Liu, her anesthesiologist. He pulled her back into surgery in this wagon - which she loved!
After her surgery, Vela took a very long time to wake up. The doctor thought it would take about 10 minutes for her to wake up, but it took an hour and a half. It was making mommy very nervous!! Here she is still sedated.
Once she finally woke up, she was ready to get unhooked from everything.
We were all glad to be heading home.
Here Vela is going on a wagon ride to the car after we were all done. We are so blessed to live so close to Primary Children's Hospital. They were great with Vela from the second we walked in the door until the end of the wagon ride out the door to go home. Thanks for all the prayers for Vela. The surgery couldn't have gone smoother!!

Glad things went well. It's so scary to see your kids go through things like that!
